Planning efforts depend upon the availability of a comprehensive inventory of bicycle and pedestrian facilities. It is recommended that municipalities and the RGVMPO work together to maintain an accurate inventory of geocoded facilities. (RGVMPO Active Transportation Plan, page 35)

With guidance from the RGVMPO BPAC, Staff is in the process of developing regional standards for a facility inventory and a strategy for cyclical review and updates.

As of April 2022, the RGVMPO is focusing on two types of active transportation facilities: off-street trails and on-street bike facilities. Sidewalks and other related facilities will be inventoried in the future, as the size of the data to collect and quality check is significant.

This webpage is dedicated to the on-going collection of active transportation facility data and continuous quality checking of the data currently reflected in the geospatial database.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in this effort.
