Hidalgo County Precinct 1 and the City of Weslaco requested that the Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization conduct a feasibility study for the Southwest Loop around the City of Weslaco.

The study will determine if a Loop transportation corridor connecting the southern and western Weslaco is a good investment of public funds. A number of alternative corridor  alignments will be studied and their impacts will be evaluated.
Traffic patterns and projected growth in the area will be analyzed.
Potential benefits and challenges associated with the project will be identified.
Environmental, social and economic impacts will be assessed
Key stakeholders including local government agencies will be engaged for their input.

Recommendations with an implementation process will be provided for further stages of the project based on the study's findings.
